Dr. Walter Reed House
Murfreesboro, North Carolina

In Partnership with The Murfreesboro Historical Association

Named for the notable army physician who discovered the cure for Yellow Fever spent some of his childhood here, "The Dr. Walter Reed House", was built circa 1850. It was the Methodist Parsonage. Dr. Reed’s work led to the cure for Yellow Fever in the early 20th century. Dr. Reed lives in this home at two different times during his boyhood when his father, Lemeul Sutton Reed, served as minister of the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church. Walter Reed met and married a young lady who lived across the street, Miss Emilie Lawrence.
