The Ghost Guild is humbled to have been invited by the Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities to spend a week sleeping in the rooms and walking the halls of a location that has served as inspiration for hundreds of literary visitors, including the likes of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Thomas Wolfe, Sherwood Anderson, Paul Green, and Maxwell Perkins. Built circa 1920, Weymouth, also known as the James Boyd house, served not just as a dwelling, but as a sanctuary and meeting place for these brilliant minds.
Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities opened its doors in 1979. It has served as a writers’ residency for over 40 years, and is the site for meetings of the N.C. Poetry Society, literary readings, dramatic performances, musical concerts and recitals. James Boyd’s study is the home of the North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame, established in 1993. |
