Historical Research Associate
Volunteer Position
Do you love research and solving mysteries? Are you looking for an opportunity to play a key role on a growing paranormal team? Because research is critical to all of our investigations, we are currently looking to augment our existing historical research capabilities. As a research associate with The Ghost Guild Inc., you would be expected to regularly participate in meetings, and presentations.
The ideal candidate will have experience with at least two of the following (further details available below) and be self-motivated to learn the others; Historic Research, Genealogical Research, Geological Research, Detective Work, and Title Research.
The kind of person we are seeking is someone who genuinely thrives on digging and gathering knowledge. Unfortunately, this is never as simple as an internet search. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is able to work independently as well as with a team.
This position is perfect for the person who would love to be an exclusive member of a paranormal team without holding an active role in field investigations, other than possibly taking part in the data analysis during and/or after investigations. In other words you like to be behind the scenes with the occasional opportunity to investigate.
We know this position takes a special kind of person with a drive and passion for history and knowledge, otherwise, we would all be historians. Finding the right candidate is most important and therefore, we are not in a rush to fill this opening. The interview process will include one or more hands-on exercises to assess the candidate’s research skills and to understand their thought process.
The candidate that is selected to join the team will need to pay ($19) for a background check performed by and paid directly to the third-party vendor Sterling Volunteers (formerly Verified Volunteers).
If you are serious about historical research and you see yourself becoming part of our story, please fill the online application to get the process started.

Responsibilities:
Historic Research
Identify events that might be linked to reported activity. Look into the history of the location, the town and people who lived there. In many cases, you’ll need to use the town archives, local newspapers historic societies, and libraries.
Detective Work
Think like a homicide detective by examining your clues from your historic research and piece the story together. This is where you think about the intent of a possible haunting. Was there a murder? Was it a suicide? Was there a love triangle? A business deal gone bad? Being able to answer these questions means you’re putting together a strong case for the team.
Genealogical Research
Look into the connections between people, who’s related to whom.
Title Research
Determine the historic ownership of a property.
Geological Research
You don’t need to be a geophysicist for this type of research. You can use an atlas that has soil, rocks and water systems to find if they helped store energy. Certain rocks, like limestone, can store energy just as water can be a conduit.
