Cross Keys House

The Cross Keys House, built between 1812 and 1814 by Barrum Bobo, is a historic Georgian Colonial home located in Union County, South Carolina. A prominent landmark in the region, it is believed to be named after the Cross Keys community, where the plantation was established. This community, which served as a key stop for travelers, even had a post office as early as 1809.
Notably, the Cross Keys House is among the oldest homes in Union County and is where Jefferson Davis dined with his cabinet during his escape from Richmond, just prior to his final war council in Abbeville. In 2006, the Union County Historical Society purchased the house and 25 surrounding acres. The house contains period furnishings and artifacts, including antique furniture, china, glass, silver, and family daguerreotypes. The site also includes an antebellum log cabin, blacksmith shop, barn and carriage house, colonial-style kitchen building, and smokehouse.
